Urodzony w 1941 roku w Łodzi kompozytor, aranżer i pianista Hannes Zerbe, przed laty powszechnie uważany za ambasadora jazzu z NRD, w ostatnich latach z wielkim powodzeniem prowadzi własną orkiestrę jazzową Hannes Zerbe Jazz Orchester Berlin. W ostatnich latach berlińska orkiestra prowadzi bardzo aktywną działalność zarówno koncertową, jak nagraniową. Warto wymienić takie albumy jak ''Eisleriana'' (2012), "Erlkonig" (2013), czy "Kalkutta" (2017). Poza działalnością w ramach orkiestry, jej lider, pianista i dyrygent Hannes Zerbe, angażuje się też w projekty kameralne. Jednym z nich jest duet z wieloletnim muzykiem Jazz Orchester Berlin, klarnecistą Jurgenem Kupke. To właśnie duet Kupke / Zerbe firmuje album "Alles hat seine Zeit" ("Wszystko w swoim czasie"), stanowiący zbiór kompozycji obu muzyków, uzupełniony o przetransponowane na formułę duetu klarnetu i fortepianu utwory Hannsa Eislera, Carli Bley, oraz Francoisa Jeanneau.

Over and over again in his work Hannes Zerbe eagerly gets close to material from classical music. Using his original visions of sound and the cogency of his improvisation ideals he wants to create a fluent exchange between two seemingly incompatible musical concepts. Besides his work with big ensembles - as his "Hannes Zerbe Jazz Orchester Berlin (JHM 211, 219, 248) - Zerbe over the years has always been drawn to small, chamber musically working projects, a.o., as a duo with tuba player Dietrich Unkrodt or the musical setting of poems of Gottfried Benn in cooperation with saxophone player Dirk Engelhardt.
The available recording of "Alles hat seine Zeit" unites Hannes Zerbe and clarinet player Jurgen Kupke from Berlin. Both musicians know each other from a lot of cooperations, also from the HZJOB. Both combine diverse play and listening experiences from classical concert music and Neue Musik. Moreover in their arrangements, compositions and concerts they constantly refer to the music of Hanns Eisler. Three compositions on "Alles hat seine Zeit" are Eisler's works, - a.o. two songs of Bertold Brecht ("Der Kirschdieb"" and "Vom Sprengen des Gartens") - and songs from Carla Bley ("Ictus") and Francois Jeanneau ("Bram van Velde"). The biggest part of song material is composed by Hannes Zerbe, perceptibly reflecting the influence of Bela Bartók ("Fur Bela") and Erik Satie ("Tango Satyr"). The duo Kupke/Zerbe also improvises to silent movies and has worked out a "JAZZ & LYRIK" project together with actress Heide Bartholomaus.
