Urodzony w 1961 roku w Dortmundzie a mieszkający w Brukseli Andreas Schickentanz zafascynowany jest brzmieniem puzonu i zastosowaniem go w muzyce jazzowej. Mimo starannego wykształcenia muzycznego, jeśli chodzi o grę na puzonie jest jednak samoukiem. Współpracował jak dotąd z tak znamienitymi postaciami współczesnej muzyki improwizowanej jak choćby: Lee Konitz, David Liebman czy Markus Stockhausen. W roku 2010 powołał do życia kwintet, w którego składzie znaleźli się tacy instrumentaliści jak saksofonista tenorowy Matthias Erlewein, pianista Lars Duppler i sekcja rytmiczna: Volker Heinze (kontrabas) i Jens Duppe (perkusja). W tym składzie zrealizowany został album "Chimera" (2012) i w tej konstelacji Schickentanz odwiedził z koncertami m.in. USA, Rosję, Tunezję i 10 krajów Afryki Wschodniej. Rok 2015 przyniósł "Axiom", który okazał się nowym rozdziałem w działalności Andreasa Schickentanza, penetrującego możliwości dokonań solowych, bez udziału innych instrumentalistów. Nowy album niemieckiego puzonisty: "Stories From The Crooked Path", będący zbiorem 15 autorskich solowych miniatur
Serwowane przez niemieckiego muzyka wielobarwne kolaże elektroniczne stanowią doskonałe tło dla pełnych uczucia partii kreowanych przez puzon. Nałożone na siebie partie instrumentu z kolei niejednokrotnie robią wrażenie luźnych spontanicznych dialogów kilku muzyków.

Following his release "Axiom" (JHM 230) Andreas Schickentanz presents "Stories From The Crooked Path", his second solo album featured on JHN. Schickentanz defines it this way: "The trombone is an instrument with a broad range of sound. Despite or maybe because of that i have always been interested in even expanding this range with physical and especially electronic devices in order to develop an independent concept for solo trombone." Thus grooves, loops, ambient-like patterns, sounds that become music, serendipital encounters (definition: randomly obtained discovery) evolve, in short: designing coincience. "This way I have found own forms and structures, established new rules and created a completely individual cosmos of sound." The instrument always is the starting point. Sometimes the sounds seem very close to it, sometimes far away from it. the recordings have been made in the year 2018 and literally are snapshots.
On "Stories from The Crooked Path" there is a caleidoscope of situations, incidents, ideas and images, stories of searching and roving to enjoy.
Crooked Path / roving / the briefness of a carefree summer / light reflexes of the atmospheric optics / reflection and diffraction of light in ice crystrals / silence / muffled sounds in a church coming from the outside / a vanishing lizard in a wall's cleft / metal / jumping into a sybway / the church clock in the neighbour town / an unfading dream / scenes of a summer flight / moonlight falling into the room / a touch of transience / a bare field in the fading light of a winter evening.
