Amerykański gitarzysta Bernie Mora i jego znakomita grupa Tangent proponują kolejny po "Transformation" (2016) album wypełniony pełną ognia i mocy mieszanką jazzu, fusion, funk i rocka.
Na płycie "No Agenda" znajdziemy dziewięć nowych utworów zespołu, który wraz z liderem tworzą: kreatywny saksofonista i flecista Doug Webb, trębacz i puzonista Lee Thornburg, klawiszowiec Corey Allen, oraz nowa sekcja rytmiczna: Daniel Becker (gitara basowa) i Charles Godfrey (perkusja).
Bernie Mora mieszka w San Antonio, ale często współpracuje z najlepszymi muzykami z Los Angeles, a formację Tangent powołał do życia klika lat temu, zyskując ogromne uznanie pośród miłośników muzyki fusion, do której zespół wniósł powiew prawdziwej świeżości.

Funk, Fusion, Rock And Jazz
Guitarist Bernie Mora never plays music that lacks fire, power and purpose. On "No Agenda", the latest recording by his fusion group Tangent, he performs nine originals with his new rhythm section (bassist Daniel Becker and drummer Charles Godfrey), keyboardist Corey Allen, the creative saxophonist Doug Webb, and Lee Thornburg who forms a horn section by himself on trumpet and trombone.
This program is filled with surprises. The opening “Mon Cheri” starts with some unaccompanied soprano from Webb before he is joined by a funky and rockish rhythm section. Throughout this piece and on other occasions, Webb’s jazz saxophones contrast with Mora’s frequently explosive rock-oriented guitar for a rollicking performance.
“Commando Roll” has a raging Webb saxophone solo, dense ensembles with Mora in the lead, and plenty of funky playing. “Later Daze” is a particularly catchy riff tune. Mora’s guitar playing is quite ferocious on “No Agenda”. “Doc The Clock”, a tribute to Mora’s late drummer Doc Anthony, is relatively straight ahead with walking bass and a haunting drum pattern. “Take Me Away”, which was also on Tangent’s previous album, serves as a contrast since it is relatively mellow with tasteful spots for Webb and keyboardist Allen.
No Agenda concludes with the intense “Cup A Joe”, the eccentric and bluesy “Pale Moon Funk”, and the atmospheric “It’s A Honu World” which has a brief Hawaiian chant from Leilani Rivera Low and fine work from guest bassist Eri Unsworth.
Bernie Mora, who is based in San Antonio but frequently utilizes top musicians from Los Angeles, has led Tangent for several years. His previous recordings for the Positone label (which include Dandelion and Transformation), while worthy by themselves, have led logically to the inventive and passionate "No Agenda".
Is the music on No Agenda funk, fusion, rock, or jazz? The answer is all of the above but, most importantly, it is the fresh and vital sound of Bernie Mora and Tangent.
