Na 16 kwietnia wytwórnia JazzHausMusik z Kolonii zapowiada aż pięć nowych albumów:

Znanego od początku lat 90-tych z wielu projektów jazzowych realizowanych w ramach własnych składów, zarówno w konfiguracji kwartetu jak i tria, niemieckiego saksofonistę Petera Maternę, usłyszymy na albumie nagranym solo, bez udziału towarzyszących instrumentalistów. Album "Saxophone Solo" jest kolejną po "Solo at arp museum Banhof Rolandseck" (2012) płytą nagraną we wnętrzach, których wyjątkowa akustyka sprzyja tego typu realizacjom. Wnętrze kościoła Old Church of Collegium Leoninum w Bonn zdaje się być idealnym miejscem dla kameralnych poczynań grającego na saksofonach: sopranowym, altowym i tenorowym, Petera Materny. Dodatkową atrakcją nagrań jest wykorzystanie możliwości koncertowego fortepianu Fazioli 308, którrego możliwości akustyczne posłużyły jako pogłos dla partii saksofonów. To nagrania nasycone ogromnym ładunkiem osobistych emocji niemieckiego wirtuoza i improwizatora. W utworach odczuwalny jest wyjątkowy spokój i duch niosący w sobie olbrzymi ładunek wrażliwości jaką obdarzony jest saksofonista. W programie płyty obok własnych kompozycji Materny, znajdziemy też solowe interpretacje utworów m.in. Kenny'ego Dorhama, Cole Portera, Milesa Davisa i Theloniousa Monka. Partie saksofonów brzmią doskonale dzięki wspaniałej akustyce kościoła i pogłosowi koncertowego fortepianu. Wirtuozeria saksofonisty zachwyca, a płyta jako całość stanowi nie tylko doskonały kameralny jazzowy seans na najwyższym z możliwych poziomie, ale też intrygującą ciekawostkę brzmieniową.

"Saxophone Solo" is the second solo release on JHM of saxophone player Peter Materna from Bonn (Germany). Peter Materna on his concept: The supreme form of music for any musician is to play solo. There you are all alone exploring instrument and music all by yourself.
This liaison, in the long years of instrumental work, change in the "mutual" perception and relation, intensifying and differentiating it. Ease is growing and in addition an immense intimacy, things that make it possible to have a mediative quality while being artistically exploring." Especially when a muscician is playing solo the room becomes an acoustic partner with great importance, its sound qualites are part or the musical "fingerprint".
Peter Materna used a trick recording this recent production: he did not only fill the church with the sound of his saxophone, he also had one of the world's best concert pianos placed there and provided it with microphones using it as a soundbox. The right pedal pressed the strings of the piano reverberated with every note, every sound structure of Materna building a co-resonance. Sound engineer Markus Braun and Materna have been enthusiastic about the incredible revereration of the Fazioli grand piano, its specific share of the sound in its entirety. this way not only the playing of the music has been and adventurous trip but also listening to and mixing the recording. On "Saxophone Solo" Materna uses songs that he is familiar with a very long time already: next to three original compositions he deals with Jazz standards and material from the "Great American Songbook". That made it easy for him to go off the paths of the composed themes not only by improvisation but also by creating sounds.
Peter Materna (*1965) lives in Bonn. Since 2010 he is artistic and managing director of the "Jazzfest Bonn".
